Paul Vendel and Sandra de Wolf met while studying at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy and have worked together ever since. The artist-sculptor duo turned their focus on light, with the aim of "bringing art to a real audience and to the world". For over thirty years, they have been creating installations using a variety of materials, including anodised aluminium, polyester, cardboard, polystyrene, copper and plexiglass, seeking to show the beauty of the existing environment. Since it was created in 2019, Sign has taken its visual appeal and messages to the Netherlands, Italy, South Africa and China.
