In Place des Jacobins, Level Up is taking PAC-MAN and Team Ghost off the screen and projecting them on a scale to match the city. The game's iconic characters come to life around the fountain in a spectacular choreography of coloured beams of light and sound, like a life-size arcade game. No screens here, no solitary player: the audience finds themselves immersed in a 360-degree installation with the crowd at the centre.
More than forty years after it was created, PAC-MAN still unites generations and inspires our collective imagination. With Level Up, Samuel Chatain and RAINBOW are not playing on nostalgia, but forging a new connection between video games and lighting, in a city where every year the buildings become blank canvases for collective artistic creation.
