In the style of the symbolist painters of the 19th century, the light design projected onto the façades depicts phantasmagorical plant and animal life that engages with the symbols of the monuments in this historic district encompassing Saint-Jean, Fourvière and the Palais de Justice

To create this tableau, the artists used traditional stained glass craft techniques engraving hand-drawn motifs in black on transparent glass plates. The pattern, which is created using needles, paintbrushes and wooden sticks, lets through the light. The plates are enamelled and fired, giving them a golden hue.

________

Artistic intent

This project incorporates a traditional dimension in its relationship to light and in the way it is displayed, by re-using old-fashioned PIJI projectors and by replacing the film with glass slides.
