Philippe Katherine is a highly popular figure in France, thanks to his quirky world and infectious laugh. He’s often associated with the colour pink, although it’s not an insipid or sugary pink that features in his current artistic project, called Le mignonisme, which he describes as “cute stuff on itchy stuff!” This creative movement is a kind of salutary reaction to the recent pandemic and lockdown. It opens the windows of our imaginations, and is both amusing and somewhat bewildering. "When we were no longer able to put on concerts or sing in public, I made pink people out of modelling clay to calm my anxiety... At first, they were small, under a glass bell, but then they grew huge and broke out!", recalls Philippe Katerine, whose celebrates his birthday… on 8 December!
