Hugo Vrijdag, who was born in 1970, is a plastic artist and designer. A graduate of Eindhoven Design Academy, he combines a gift for storytelling with a fascination with technology, bringing stories to life through films in which the objects and accessories he designs become characters in their own right. His work explores the relationship between art, design, technology and narration, in particular via light installations and immersive experiences. He has founded a number of scientific centres in the Netherlands including The Factory of Discoveries in Eindhoven; he has also created myriad light displays. Sunflowers for Vincent van Gogh was first presented at the GLOW festival in Eindhoven in 2019 before touring a number of light festivals in Europe and China.
