In previous years, it was tradition for the light installations to only be visible outside on the square in front of the city centre theatre, a delightful public space hemmed in by impressive façades and adorned with benches and magnolia trees. This year, there is no need to wait for night to fall, the public is invited to enjoy a show inside the magnificent Italianate theatre - an added bonus to the installation outside. Here, an artists’ collective Tundra has taken the imposing red and gilded theatre and transformed it, unnerving us with a bold, fast-moving installation.

Looking at Row, surrounded by the opulent décor of this municipal theatre, we are all ears, captivated by familiar sounds from nature mixed with hypnotic contemporary sounds created by algorithms. The astounding blades rotating at lightning speed create mesmerising visual effects. Clever compositions and combinations float in the air: mathematical data converted into sound and vision, sparkling motes of dust, order and chaos on all sides.

Klim, Alexandr and Semyon joined forces in the collective TUNDRA ten years ago; today their outreach is global and they adapt their installations to the particular architecture of the chosen venue. We are big fans of their multimedia approach inspired by music and images which sparks our imagination, moulds space and time and interacts with technology.

Just like the spellbound theatregoers watching events unfold on stage against a backdrop of 200 years of history, we are curious... curious to discover perspectives from far and wide and embrace the emotions they inspire in us.
