Louis-Paul Carron uses oil paintings depicting the houses on the Pacific Palisades in Los Angeles that were damaged by fire in 2025 to create an animated mural, an image that seems to hold the memory of a lost landscape. The houses remain intact, awash with bright colours, while the painted images scroll by with an introspective quality. The artist does not show the flames, but uses the crackling of the fire and the sound of the sirens to bring to life the sense of losing a familiar place. Little by little, the sounds of birds and other animals can be heard, and with them comes the possibility that life may return. Between melancholy and hope, the piece explores the notion of solastalgia, a feeling of distress caused by the loss of an environment that is deeply important to us.
