Paseo d’hiver transforms Rue de la République into a promenade beneath a sky made of flowers and luminous crystals that runs all the way from Place des Cordeliers to Place Bellecour. The arches form a gigantic pergola that invites the public to occupy the entire road and rediscover the city from a different perspective.
Continuing a tradition of celebration that goes back to the Renaissance, the motifs combine craftsmanship, references to Lyon's history, and colour palettes inspired by the local area: the red of the facades, the blue of the Saône and the Rhône rivers, gold and silver. In the depths of winter, these flowers of light also appear as symbolic offerings, celebrating the much-wished-for return of the sun and the fertility of the soil.
Behind these luminous structures, a host of artisanal trades are being kept alive, with metalworkers, carpenters, and electricians pooling their skills, from design to installation. A hand-made creation, designed for the city and those who walk its streets.
