This imposing sculpture formed of seracs - huge chunks of ice which have broken away from the glaciers - resembles a sliver of mountain. Standing 5.5 metres tall, its craggy surface forms a backdrop for the projection of images and videos filmed at the Bionnassay glacier in the Mont Blanc mountain range. Cracks appear, different textured layers emerge, and the ice moves in slow motion giving the impression that the glacier is alive, evolving before our very eyes.
Sounds of nature and ice breaking accompany piano and synthesiser in an immersive 6-minute musical loop. This calm contemplative experience encourages visitors to take their time and listen. Echoes of Ice reveals how glaciers react over time, how ice turns to water; a timely reminder of the effects of climate change with an opportunity to briefly reconnect with nature.
