We are all invited on an ocean-faring journey with ships, masts silhouetted in the background, a palette of blues, a mass of twinkling dots of light, the sound of a fog horn and seagulls.
Irrespective of the intention of the artist transforming the site, the square itself remains a flagship monument in the city. Its famous fountain, inaugurated 140 years ago, is metamorphosed into a lighthouse and rocky islet. Architecture, local traditions and the art of travel are interwoven to form a harmonious whole. Seafaring visitors of all generations are welcome on board. The Saône on the starboard side, the Rhône on the port side… we are urgently reminded of the importance of water in our city and the need to protect this natural treasure.
In the midst of this ephemeral installation, candles flicker warmly in the night. More than 3,000 will be lit each evening of the Festival. Let’s do our bit - generosity runs in Lyon’s blood.
