Ten six-metre nautical beacons shine down over the city like lighthouses. Visible from afar, they herald the arrival of the Festival of Lights and act as the gateway. As you get closer, they seem to draw visitors into a space where light, sound and movement create the illusion of an underwater world. The waves dance in a mechanical ballet, alternating periods of calm and frenzy, reminding us of the rising water level. Benches are provided so that visitors can truly immerse themselves in this aquatic universe.
The light rays reflect against the walls and ground, imitating the caustics - patterns that dance just below the surface of the water. An original musical score combining strings, vocals and electronic sounds evokes the shore, the sea and submersion.
But the beauty of this imaginary ocean hides a terrible reality: the slow, unstoppable rise of the water. Without moralising, Sentinels (Underwater) offers a moment of poetic contemplation where you stop, admire the ocean and reflect upon the changes we are visiting upon the world.
