Six inflatable fabric sculptures resembling strange mountains have sprung up in the Parc de la Tête d’Or. Eye-catching and colourful during the day, they come alive at night with soft LED lighting. Motion sensors detect any movement and the presence of visitors. As you come closer, their luminous eyes follow your movements and trigger waves of sound, light and AI-generated messages sharing advice that can be silly, cheeky or - surprisingly - spot on.
These huge yet gentle creatures can be touched, hugged or simply observed from afar. Whispering Mountains exploits their reassuring appearance and artificial intelligence to alert us to our tendency to seek answers from figures in which we choose to place our trust. An amusing and engaging experience which gives us food for thought about the role AI now plays in our lives.
