Opened in 1857, the Parc de la Tête d'Or is one of France’s largest urban parks. It was landscaped by brothers Denis and Eugène Bühler in the English garden style and features a 16-hectare lake fed by a branch of the Rhône. The park is run by the City authorities and provides a breath of fresh air in the heart of the city. Covering 117 hectares in all, it includes an area of natural parkland, a zoo and botanical gardens.
