At the foot of Saint Jean Cathedral, this artwork unfolds like an Arabian folktale along the river. The story begins with a mysterious ship which appears from nowhere and docks on the river banks with its cargo of trunks… Slowly, light works its magic allowing each one to reveal its secret: majestic birds, tiny creatures, marine animals - all depicted as fragments of legends. Colours, symbols and landscapes sweep over the façades in a riot of colours.
Thierry Pierras drew each image by hand before digitising it. In the era of artificial intelligence, drawing on traditional paper has lost nothing of its impact and narrative power… It remains important for the creator of Les Malles Persanes : “I like the idea of working on a book which comes alive before our very eyes and has the power to transport us into a dream world.” Manual art creates beauty and fires the imagination.
