Candelum

On Place d’Albon, five huge streetlights rise up, each seven metres tall, featuring organic forms and colourful lights. TILT takes the huge streetlights that illuminate the motorways of Montreal and transforms these symbols of moving traffic into a poetic interlude in the centre of a city where the festivities are in full swing. The lights pulse softly, projecting shifting circles in warm, amber colours onto the ground. The installation seems to breathe, like a luminous lung, enveloping the square in a soothing atmosphere, a comforting cocoon in the middle of all the hustle and bustle. At the foot of the streetlights, large seats made of solid wood invite you to take the weight off your feet, get your breath back, and raise your eyes to look at the illuminated city. The square thus reclaims its role as a passing place and a meeting place, but not in quite the same way: it is an open-air urban salon, a kind of town square where everyone can take a breather and enjoy the festive atmosphere.
