In a nutshell

When do you realise that something has actually disappeared? This project makes us question our relationship with time and the erosion of nature.
Contenu

Countdown is a four-minute light show which gives us an insight into the unseen: the gradual disappearance of living things. The public look on as a dense, luxuriant network of roots undergoes a gradual transformation, shrinking and withering until only a trace remains.

The countdown is never materialised: it is inherent and imperceptible.
The mapping unfolds in strata accompanied by a palette of colours which moves from organic green to a more clinical monochrome. This transformation is illustrated by sounds from the natural world followed by bird flight, a moment of suspense then a cold and impersonal atmosphere reigns punctuated by echoes, steps and voices in the distance.

Without moralising, Countdown questions our impact on nature and our capacity to perceive what is gradually slipping away from us.
