The superb façade of Saint Jean Cathedral is experiencing yet another metamorphosis, coming to life and awakening our emotions.
The world-famous Hungarian artist László Zsolt Bordos is offering us a deep insight into this spiritual monument. Our initial impression is of calm and restraint, but the artist soon unlocks the power of this building steeped in time and history.
The white light outlines the stone like a halo. Clean lines and Gothic arches emerge then explode into fragments of monochrome light. Horizontal and vertical beams of light sweep across the façade giving it renewed depth.
Gradually, a new dimension opens up to us: we have a glimpse of what lies inside; the grand nave stretching out into the distance before us. Now it is time for the colours to flood into the space. This experience, which unfolds to the sound of the organ, is revealing, formal and intense. The rose window remains the apex of the show as the light circles around it.
