Esplanade du Gros Caillou

A vestige of the Quaternary Period, this large rock was discovered in 1862 during the construction of a cable car line connecting Presqu'île to Croix-Rousse. According to legend, it is the petrified heart of a greedy writ server. It is also the symbol of Croix-Rousse.
